Symptoms

When you try to dismiss calendar reminders in Microsoft Outlook, you discover that they can't be dismissed or keep reappearing.

Cause

The reminders folder or the reminder view is corrupted. A sync conflict may also prevent Outlook from dismissing a reminder.

Resolution

Method 1

Delete the item using a command line:

  1. Close Outlook.

  2. Right click the Start button in Windows and select Run.

  3. In the Run window, type or paste the command below and select Enter. Microsoft office for mac trial canada.

Method 2

Delete the Reminders folder by using the Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Editor (MFCMAPI). To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Download MFCMAPI from github (scroll down and then click Latest release).

  2. Exit Outlook.

  3. Open MFCMAPI.

  4. On the Tools menu, click Options, select both of the following check boxes (if they're not already selected), and then click OK:

    • Use the MDB_ONLINE flag when calling OpenMsgStore
    • Use the MAPI_NO_CACHE flag when calling OpenEntry
  5. Click Session, click Logon, select the profile that you want to change, and then click OK.

  6. Double-click the mailbox store that you want to open.

  7. Expand Root Container.

  8. Right-click the Reminders folder, and then click Delete folder.

    Note

    Do not delete the individual items inside the Reminders folder. The Reminders folder is just a view of upcoming events on the calendar. If the items inside the folder are deleted, those items will be removed from the calendar.

  9. Run the Outlook.exe /cleanreminders or Outlook.exe /ResetFolders command line. (This step re-creates the Reminders folder and adds any valid entries back in.)

Method 3

The sync issue can be fixed by clearing all offline items from the Calendar folder. This will remove all items from the local copy, but they can be downloaded again from the server.

  1. Right click the affected calendar and select Properties > Clear Offline Items > OK. All items on the calendar will be removed.
  2. Select Send / Receive > Update Folder in the ribbon to force the items' download.

Refresh your calendars

  • On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 7 or later, open the Calendar app, then tap Calendars at the bottom of your screen to see your list of calendars. Swipe down on the list to refresh.
  • On your Mac, open Calendar and choose View > Refresh Calendars.
  • On your Windows PC, go to the Outlook toolbar and click the Refresh button in the iCloud section.

  1. Open Calendar. If you don't see a list of your calendars, click the Calendars button in the upper-left corner.
  2. Find the section labeled On My Mac.
  3. Compare the events in On My Mac to the events on your iCloud calendars.
  4. If your calendars in iCloud show all of your events and the calendars on your Mac show only duplicates, you can hide the calendars on your Mac. To hide a calendar, deselect its box in the section called On My Mac.

If you choose to delete calendars on your Mac, delete only those in the On My Mac section. Don't delete calendars in any other section, like iCloud, Subscriptions, Other, or other calendar services.

  2. In the On My Mac section, click the calendar that you want to delete.
  3. You can delete the calendar in two ways:
    • Choose Edit > Delete.

  1. Open Outlook and click Calendar. If you can't see your list of calendars, expand the pane: Click the right arrow button above the Navigation Pane button (Outlook 2007), Folders button (Outlook 2010), or All Folders button (Outlook 2013 and later).
  2. From the left viewing pane, find the section labeled My Calendars. In Microsoft Outlook, you can find your local calendars in My Calendars, also called Outlook DATA file. By default, this box should be checked so you have access to your local calendar.

  4. If your calendars in iCloud show all of your events, and the calendars on your PC show only duplicates, hide the calendars on your PC. Open iCloud for Windows, deselect the “Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and Tasks” checkbox, and click Apply. Select the checkbox again and click Apply.

  1. Make a copy of your iCloud calendar data.
  2. In My Calendars on your PC, right-click the calendar that you'd like to delete and choose Delete Calendar. Outlook won't let you delete the default Calendar, but you should be able to remove other calendars that you have permission to delete.

If you see duplicate Google calendar data in your iCloud Calendar, you can hide or delete your Google Calendar.

  1. Open Calendar.
  2. Tap Calendars at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Find the section Gmail.
  4. Tap All Gmail to hide all of your Gmail calendars. Or tap a specific Gmail calendar to hide it.
